What happens when the rain stops...

...the flies come back out(!).  We've had much nicer weather on Exmoor the last few days, but the problem is whats nicer for us is also nicer for the horse-flies...

The horses are if anything more enthusiastic to come in now than they were when it was raining!

I'm also agonising over the weather forecasts, my annual obsession when its time to get hay cut - absolutely nail-bitingly worrying because if you get it wrong you are totally and utterly stuffed, and there are few more soul-destroying sights than the rain pouring down on hay which has been cut but not baled...

What wouldn't I give now for 4 days of guaranteed dry weather (NO smugness or sniggering from the Texans in the back row, please).

Every Flynn facial expression is a classic. This video made me smile. Tell the horses that caribou band together in massive herds and run around a lot to share the parasitic burden of fly season. Perhaps they could recruit some Exmoor ponies whilst the flies are bad? Right. I'm online now. Time to pay you!

Nic, is it a requirement for horses that come to Rockley to have a cute white star on their foreheads and perfectly full, banged tails? 'Cause they all look wonderful!
