The best 4x4? - with snow pics of course...

We've only had about 3 or 4 inches of snow, and the roads had been fine.  So Andy set off in his Land Rover.  He took his wellies and a shovel just in case.  All seemed to be going well until he turned the corner at Five Cross Ways...

Exmoor top tip: if the road looks like this, its time to slow down
Andy realised too late that the wind had created a snow drift or two...
Oops...

He walked all the way home and got back looking like Scott of the Antarctic, then we jumped into my truck to go and pull him out...or at least that was the idea.  The Landy was SO stuck that it pulled my truck sideways into the ditch and then that was stuck as well
Oops...
We both walked all the way home - again.
Next we got in the tractor...

We'd learnt our lesson and even had back up from our neighbours (thanks Richard, Dan and Misty!) with another tractor in case we got that stuck as well :-)
My truck got itself out with the help of a bit of shovelling and lots of cheering and directions from the sidelines...
Once Andy had cleared the road, the Land Rover had to be dragged out backwards by the tractor with its little wheels spinning in frenzy, but...
...it worked!

We'd better find a different route out for the next day or so :-)

Meanwhile, there is a better all terrain option:

as long as the monsters in the drifts don't get you...

Just got back from my first barefoot ride in the snow. Frankie was amazing and so surefooted that we even had a little canter.
We also kept a careful eye out for drift monsters.
Tried to get pics but they were too blurry as he was trying to trot and canter all the time.

Fantastic!

You've got to be VERY careful with the drifts, though - if you take your eye off them for even a second, monsters can leap out - they are the same ones that lived under my bed when I was small :-) Luckily, Solomon and Frankie obviously watch them like hawks, thus keeping us all safe...!
