Those who say that something cannot be done...

This is for all of you with rehab horses - I've included as many of you as I could but of course there are masses who I just couldn't fit in. I'll add more of you next time!

Meanwhile, feel free to print it off and wave it at your vets ;-)

I have just come back from a pony club rally with my 14.2hh and 13.2hh barefeet ponies. I am getting fed up with comments from their teachers that the ponies are slipping simply because they are NOT shod...and actually refuse to let them do some fences as they are not shod... I feel this is blatant discrimination. I now feel like its MY fault the children aren't allowed to do as much as the other shod horses do (over XC fendes). I know shod horses slip too, unless studded up to the eyeballs. I would love to be able to print off evidence that being barefoot doesn't compromise their jumping. In fact jumping when shod is far more concussive on their leg joints, the hoof capsule is designed to be their shock absorber, which it can't do when shod. Grrrr..... am so peeved about this..feel the only way my girls can get up the rung in pony club is to get their ponies shod !! The fjord has never been shod and has fab feet. The 14.2hh used to be shod, but I removed them all when she had a foal 6yrs ago and never put them back on.
