Snow, from the horses' perspective...

In the end we only had an inch or so of snow yesterday, though it was still flurrying at 8pm.  Luckily, I'd just finished schooling the rehab horses about half an hour before the snow started...!

The horses, however, were enjoying the novelty as tea-time approached, and they love making footprints in a fresh fall of snow just like the rest of us :-)

Angel off to investigate what on earth is happening...

Solomon, taking it all in his stride
Kingsley, snow-ploughing
Isha, wondering whether it was a good idea
to move from Cornwall to Exmoor in wintertime...(!)

I find it fascinating where horses choose to be if you let them have the option - on a still, cold day, like today, snow doesn't really bother them and they have a lot of fun being out in it.

I am willing to bet, though, that if the wind gets up they will decide to spend much of the night undercover, especially now the full moon is waning and the cloud is thickening.

I'd forgotten of course (because the last proper snow was in Feb) that there is nothing like a scenic snowfall to make mucking out the track indescribably time-consuming...harder to spot, harder to pick up, harder to push the barrow - maybe not quite so scenic after all...

Our horses love the snow, too - the deeper the better - and most winters we get plenty of it. Ice is what I hate - dangerous and keeps me from riding - I'm hoping we don't get a lot of that this year!

No snow here yet though it's threatening but I'm looking forward to not worrying about snow balling in his feet and creating six inch snow stilts like last year :-)

Thanks Kate - must admit its early for us to have snow, though :-) Think it may be heading your way next week, Cristina - and yes, you'll enjoy having a barefoot horse in the snow :-)

As much as I love the snowy countryside I hope it doesn't get overboard and stops us from reaching you!
Looks gorgeous though :)
