Firstly, thanks to everyone who sent such kind messages either here or on Facebook wishing Paddy (and Debbie) well - so far all your positive thoughts have had a great effect and he has come through the first 24 hours as well as anyone could have expected, and he is pretty cheerful considering his ordeal.
We went to see him this morning and he was calling for food, though unfortunately he isn't allowed anything other than via a drip for another 24 hours - sorry Paddy(!).
Look away now if you are squeamish, because this is the offending tumour, which had wrapped itself round part of his small intestine...The vets at Mullacott did a great job with the surgery, and we owe a debt of gratitude as well to our own vets at Market Veterinary Centre in South Molton who made the prompt decision to refer Paddy for surgery in good time, while he still had the best possible chance of a good outcome.
Please keep wishing him well, as I know you will, because there is a long way to go before he makes a full recovery... Thanks everyone!

Looks like a lipoma . . . So glad he's doing well so far, and keeping fingers crossed for a complete and uneventful recovery.
Dead right, Kate, and as such I don't think it was causing him pain - certainly he gave no signs of it before yesterday.

Cor, bet he's glad that's out. Fingers crossed for when he starts eating again.

Nic, I owe you and Paddy's owner an apology. Re-reading my post it sounded as if I thought Paddy uncomfortable for a while. I absolutely did not mean it that way, I know Paddy has the best of care and a very attentive owner. My sincere apologies, and I have deleted my rather inconsiderate post.
Paddy has my best wishes for a quick recovery!
that is a pretty incredible tumor! My horse had a similar problem two years ago but the lipoma ended up being inoperable and we had to put him down. So glad that his surgery went well!!
It may not have been causing him pain, but I wonder what effect having that removed will have on his feet - once he gts over the stress of the colic and surgery. It must have been causing some sort of constriction for some time.
Jen, absolutely no need for an apology - I took your original comment in the spirit it was meant - no misunderstanding from our end so pleaser don't worry :-)
Deeded, according to what the vet described, the tumour had certainly been growing slowly for a long time, probably years, but it was actually outside the intestine. what happened on Thursday was very sudden as it stopped and wrapped round the intestine which caused the blockage. It can only have occurred a few hours before his op because there was only a small section of dead tissue. It will be interesting to see what if anything shows in his feet - he ia on lots of drugs Inc antibiotics so I am betting on a big event line at least.
