Its not just my blogging brain which is frozen and sluggish...The horses are no longer behaving as if spring is in the air - who can blame them? - and we are all wondering if its too late to go into hibernation...
So far we haven't had the heavy snow which has blighted other parts of the country (though its snowed overnight and coming down quite persistently this morning) but its well below freezing day and night and more like January than March.
At least the wind has dropped slightly, though Wally and Felix don't look too optimistic and none of the horses will venture onto the eastern side of the track AKA the arctic wasteland...
Beanie and Red are staying focussed. "We've got haylage, we are out of the wind, now go away and leave us to munch!".Luckily I've still been able to get horses out exercising - the school is as hard as concrete and impossible, but at least the roads are ok - but its frightening to calculate how much haylage I am still feeding to the horses and cattle.
Paddy and Rolo go head to head in the firs...
...but they get distracted and Ruby muscles in! Paddy, like most horses, has settled in very quickly but I think he - along with the rest of us - would be grateful for a bit of sun on his back and some grass in the fields. Maybe next week?
Paddy is looking very chilled in comparison to how he was when I dropped him off!!
ReplyDeleteUnbelievably, up here on the north coast of Scotland it's a bright blue sky with sunshine and the fields are greening up nicely - I think someone turned the UK upside down this year and no-one told us!
ReplyDeleteI'm still feeding a horse who should have been put down on Tuesday :-(((
ReplyDeleteI need a break soon or I will go mad. Hoping against hope that the roads are clear enough to get to the last meet of the season on Saturday.

So, so sorry to hear that beastly old man winter still has you in his grasp!! Don't mean to cause you distress (or envy) but here in beautiful NW Oregon, we do indeed have spring. Weatherman is predicting 70 degrees F this weekend for Easter Day. That is warm, even for us! But we've had a milder, much drier winter, and it continues to be a record-breaking dry year so far. Spring has sprung and all the ponies are shedding like mad!! Do hope your weather changes and shapes up soon!!
