Poor
Kingsley has had a bad bout of azoturia :-( It sounds nasty and looks very, very sore. We are all sending him lots of good vibes for a rapid recovery, and if you felt like dropping by to do the same, go to

Kingsley says thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'm with the Vet tomorrow so will hopefully have more clue on how he is progressing. All muscles around pelvis still rock hard though.
I haven't read the blog and she may be aware of it, but Azoturia is a symptom of Equine Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy which in my experience with Campero can also cause the kind of weakness in the foot that predisposes to navicular spectrum lamenesses. I wonder if Wiola is finding out the base reason behind Kingsley's unsoundness in the feet???
ReplyDeleteFor the unaware, EPSM can often be quite easily managed with a high oil, high vitamin E diet and - of course - low sugar high fibre and plenty of turnout.

A really valid point, Caroline, but in K's case it seems to have been a combo of dehydration and low electrolytes.
ReplyDeleteI always send horses home with lots of info on nutrition, and K has been on a good diet and rock-crunchingly sound for a good few months now.
Think the azoturia was probably just sods law, but always good to be reminded :-)
